When Adversity

Sparks Innovation

Amped PCR isn't just a biotech company,  it is a story of personal resilience and unwavering determination.

For years, our co-founder, Aysha, navigated life with debilitating chronic health conditions (ME/CFS, Hashimoto’s disease and chronic migraines), alongside neurodivergence (dyslexia and ADHD), challenges that significantly affected her ability to work in traditional environments. Ben, her partner and founder, made the difficult  decision  to step away from his established career as a molecular biologist to become her full-time carer.

This period, though incredibly challenging, sparked a pivotal realisation. We saw a future where two talents, one in design, the other in scientific innovation could be lost to circumstance. We refused to let that happen. If we wanted to pursue meaningful work that respected Aysha's needs and allowed both our skills to flourish, the only path forward was to forge our own.

And so, Amped PCR was born, not in a grand office, but from the humble beginnings of Aysha working from her bed, and Ben from a shed. We started with nothing but a shared vision and a burning desire to make a difference.

A significant turning point came when we applied to the BioAccelerate 2022 programme. To our delight and validation, we went on to win it. This pivotal moment propelled us forward, culminating in  a successful pre-seed funding round of over half a million pounds.

Today, we are developing PurifAI, our flagship innovation. This next-generation molecular platform combines advanced PCR technologies with AI-enabled workflows to deliver precise, efficient, and sustainable testing in the Agri-Food, Environmental, and Veterinary Industries. PurifAI is designed for scalability and decentralised use, aiming to revolutionise how we detect pathogens and contaminants across the applied markets, for a safer, more sustainable food system.

We are committed to fostering a disability-friendly working environment. We know firsthand the challenges faced by talented individuals with complex health challenges, so often left on the shelf, and we are determined to build a company where anyone, regardless of circumstance, can thrive and contribute with their unique strengths.

Amped PCR is a testament to what’s possible when innovation meets empathy and resilience, creating not just groundbreaking technology, but also a truly inclusive future.
