RUSH are one of Amped PCR’s highly valued customers, pioneering a range of microbiome-related projects at the GMCF, within the prestigious RUSH Medical Centre in Chicago.

Here they highlight the reasons why they have chosen to use Amped PCR’s Amped Universal qPCR® above all others.

Tell us about your Amped PCR product application

We have been developing applications on a new real-time PCR instrument called an iconPCR (N6tec), a 96-well real-time PCR instrument in which each well is independently controlled.

This allows the instrument to perform adaptive cycling – that is, changing the number of cycles based on observed fluorescence. It allows some autonormalization and the amplification of templates for which the exact number of cycles is not determined beforehand.

This can have applications for ultra-low biomass samples and for microbial amplicon library preparation for next-generation sequencing. In any case, we have been using Amped mastermixes with SYBR green already included to be able to both utilize the nice polymerase and mastermix, and to simplify our workflow with our iconPCR.

What made you choose Amped PCR

We have been looking for PCR mastermixes that have very low background signal, and had good results with Amped for 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. We’ve been happy with our ability to get Amped mastermixes made with and without SYBR and other bespoke modifications as needed.

It is also very helpful to have a 5X mastermix – this benefits us when making libraries from low concentration samples.

It’s been a pleasure working with the Amped team to get our desired mastermix and getting our logo on the tubes!
